How is geranium oil produced?

Geranium oil is produced from the geranium plant - its leaves, branches and flowers. This is done by steaming the plant, or heating it with a carrier oil.

The geranium plant hails from the Geraniaceae family, which has no less than 422 annual and perennial species. It grows around the world, but is particularly common in the Mediterranean region. This plant has flowers that blossom in white, pink, purple and blue.

9 species of geranium plants exist in Israel. The most common are the bourbon geranium, rose geranium and Egyptian geranium. It is a green, floral and wonderful plant that spreads its pleasant scent across distances. It also has many healing properties, to be outlined shortly.

Geranium oil is suitable for all skin types and is effective when used by people of all ages, from infants, through children and teenagers, to adults.

  • Bath: A bath with geranium oil can help with sleeplessness and calms the body and soul. Drip 2-3 drops into warm bath water.
  • Massage: Do not apply directly to the skin, but rather dilute geranium oil in a basic oil (like almond oil, olive oil or jojoba oil), and massage it into the body/face. One drop of geranium oil per teaspoon of basic oil.
  • Sterilization: To clean and sterilize the skin, or to heal wounds and relieve itchy, mosquito-bitten skin, you can sterilize the site with a cotton ball dipped in water with a drop of geranium oil. .
  • Sniffing: Sniffing the scent of geranium oil directly from the bottle raises your spirits.
  • Dripping/extermination: You can drip a few drops of geranium oil on your furniture and sheets. The scent will flood your home with a pleasant scent and, when used in conjunction with citronella oil, will also help repel mosquitoes.
  • Gargling: You can dilute 3 drops of geranium oil in a cup of water and gargle to relieve throat and tooth infections. Do now swallow the liquid!

Warning: Do not immerse yourself in an oil bath if you have high blood pressure, suffer from a heart condition, or are post surgery.
